The agreement was the final agreement that was to be negotiated between the union and major U.S. automakers. April 16, 2018 – Resolute Forest Products Inc. announced today that a four-year tentative agreement has been reached with Unifor under the ratification of its members. The master`s agreement includes eight Canadian pulp and paper mills from Resolute: Amos, Baie-Comeau, Dolbeau, Gatineau, Kénogami and Saint-Félicien, Quebec, as well as the Thunder Bay mill, which has now closed Thorold`s Ontario operation indefinitely. “Earlier this year, we established a new wage model for the rail industry and we are pleased to conclude these negotiations with agreements that ensure that our railway workers earn their fair share of wages and benefits,” said Jerry Dias, President of Unifor National. The four negotiating committees of the Unifor Council are unanimous and determined to find the best possible agreements. TORONTO – Unifor members of General Motors in St. Catharines, Oshawa and Woodstock voted 85% in favor of ratifying a new three-year collective agreement that includes significant investment, job security and economic gains. “Our members remain the driving force behind CN`s continued success and we are pleased to recommend these new agreements to our members,” said Dave Kissack, President of the Unifor 4000 National Council. Proposals have been exchanged and further negotiation dates are scheduled for the start of the week of February 4, 2019. The five collective agreements expire on March 31, 2019.
